Khao Yai Secures Second Spot Among Asia’s Top Rural Getaways

Bangkok: Khao Yai in Thailand has been ranked as the second most popular rural destination in Asia, highlighting Thailand's appeal in global tourism.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that Agoda, a notable digital travel platform, has listed "Asia's Top Rural Destinations" for travelers looking to escape urban life. Khao Yai came in second, following Cameron Highlands in Malaysia. Other prominent destinations include Puncak in Indonesia, Fujikawaguchiko in Japan, Kenting in Taiwan, Sapa in Vietnam, Munnar in India, and Pyeongchang in South Korea.

The evaluation focused on rural areas with populations under 50,000 in eight Asian countries. Rankings were based on search data from Agoda's platform between February 15 and August 15, 2025, highlighting the trend of travelers seeking natural settings, local cultures, and serene environments amidst mountains and hills.

Khao Yai's recognition as a leading destination is a point of national pride for Thailand. The area is known for its natural beauty, including forests, wildlife, and waterfalls, as well as a range of outdoor activities suitable for relaxation and adventure. It also offers cultural attractions that embody Thai charm, appealing to international visitors.

Ms. Sasikarn emphasized the government's efforts to promote local natural and cultural sites on the global stage, aiming to boost income, provide community opportunities, and advance Thai tourism towards sustainable growth.
