NACC Spokesperson Addresses Media, Highlights Future Proactive Role of the Commission

Bangkok: Today, Mr. Surapong Intarathaworn, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and Acting Secretary-General for the Disabled, addressed the media at a press conference held at the NACC office regarding the future work of the commission in 2026. He emphasized that the NACC will adopt a more proactive role, countering previous perceptions of slow progress. The commission's activities will be monitored and reported periodically, with improvements planned for its structure. A specialized unit will be established to ensure efficient and timely operations within legal parameters, particularly concerning high-budget procurement projects. Mr. Surapong stated that investigations would adhere to a framework with a maximum timeframe of two to three years, and these changes will become evident during his tenure.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surapong outlined the NACC's future focus on cases related to natural resources due to their significant public impact. He noted that these cases are considered public and national property, and thus, the NACC will implement more proactive measures to address them. In response to public concerns about the NACC's involvement in blue-collar politics, Mr. Surapong reassured that the commission operates under a system of checks and balances. He emphasized that the NACC's primary objective is neutrality, supported by external oversight from both the House and the Senate.

Mr. Surapong further explained that all NACC members are selected based on their backgrounds, with many hailing from the judiciary. He expressed confidence in the commission's legal reasoning and affirmed that the NACC's performance will address public questions. He highlighted the commission's commitment to neutrality, stating that the facts will demonstrate the NACC's impartiality and effectiveness in its operations.
