Anutin Advocates for Open and Inclusive APEC at Economic Leaders’ Meeting

Gyeongju: The Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, participated in the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, advocating for a more open, inclusive, and future-oriented approach within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). In his address, he emphasized the necessity of cooperation in facing global challenges and highlighted the significance of resilience and connectivity in the region.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anutin expressed appreciation to the host country, the Republic of Korea, for its exceptional hospitality and organization. He acknowledged the participation of the United Arab Emirates as a guest and praised the presentation by the IMF Managing Director on the 2025 global economic outlook, agreeing that "uncertainty is the new normal." Mr. Anutin highlighted the importance of a cooperative approach as a necessity rather than an option for APEC, advocating for an open and inclusive community to bolster regional strength and resilience.

The Prime Minister stressed the role of free trade and interconnected markets in achieving sustainable prosperity. He underscored Thailand's support for a modern, inclusive, rules-based cooperation framework that benefits all sectors, especially Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), through enhanced regional economic connectivity.

Mr. Anutin also brought attention to the need for investment driven by innovation and sustainability. He cited Thailand's FastPass program, designed to attract quality investment in clean energy, digital infrastructure, and high-tech industries, ensuring that economic growth aligns with environmental preservation for future generations.

Highlighting the role of the private sector in driving future transformation, Mr. Anutin called for investment in human resources, particularly in digital skills and AI, and the harmonization of digital standards to improve trade efficiency and inclusivity among economies.

In line with APEC's cooperative spirit, Thailand is pursuing membership in the OECD, demonstrating its commitment to international standards and economic collaboration. Furthermore, Thailand aims to expand partnerships beyond the region, co-hosting the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Summit with China this year and preparing to host the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Ministerial Meeting and the IMF and World Bank annual meetings next year.

Mr. Anutin concluded by emphasizing the importance of these meetings as platforms for fostering closer cooperation among APEC and non-APEC members, addressing shared challenges, and unlocking new economic opportunities. He expressed his vision for a more connected, resilient, and sustainable region benefiting both present and future generations.
