Bangkok: His Majesty the King has voiced his concern for flood victims in the southern regions, prompting the government to take immediate action. The Prime Minister has pledged to mobilize resources, including food, communication tools, and boats, to evacuate stranded individuals to safety.
According to Thai News Agency, Government Spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat disclosed that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired a meeting focused on the flooding issues in southern provinces. The meeting, which took place via Zoom, included high-ranking officials such as His Majesty the King's Private Secretary, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, and other key ministers and military leaders.
During the meeting, the Royal Secretary communicated His Majesty's concerns, urging the government to integrate these concerns into their operational strategies. His Majesty has offered comprehensive support to the affected regions, employing the full capacity of the Royal Thai Army, Royal Thai Navy, and Royal Thai Air Force to relocate residents from hazardous zones to safer locations. Additionally, he praised the nationwide volunteer efforts that have contributed to relief operations.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the royal guidance and affirmed the government's commitment to deploying personnel to alleviate the distress in the affected areas. Efforts are not confined to Songkhla Province but extend across multiple southern provinces that have been declared disaster zones. The escalating situation, particularly in Hat Yai District, has prompted the declaration of a state of emergency, with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation elevating the situation to Level 4 and establishing a Situation Management Center for coordinated relief efforts.
Emphasizing the safety of citizens, the Prime Minister directed relevant agencies to expedite the evacuation of patients, vulnerable groups, and others desiring to leave the flood-affected areas. The armed forces are actively deploying aircraft, helicopters, boats, and jet skis to deliver essential supplies and facilitate evacuations.
