Hat yai: The Emergency Response Center convened a crucial meeting to address the ongoing flood rehabilitation and relief efforts in Hat Yai. Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, the Government Spokesperson, led the discussion alongside the Center for Emergency Situation Administration (CEA) to strategize on the next steps for aiding the flood-stricken region. The Waterworks Authority reported a significant increase in water supply to Hat Yai, reaching 80% today, with plans to achieve full capacity by December 3rd.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting, chaired by Mr. Siripong, served as a follow-up to the earlier CPOC meeting. The Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, was set to provide policy directions for the 2027 budget framework, which was the primary agenda. Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul, Minister to the Prime Minister's Office and Director of the CPOC, was delegated to chair the meeting, considering his role overseeing the Budget Bureau.
The meeting emphasized the transition to recovery and relief phases in the Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. Discussions centered on 70% recovery operations, while also addressing continued assistance for those still stranded. The aim was to integrate efforts and identify existing challenges faced by the operational team, with several proposals for implementation on the table.
Mr. Sutat Nuchpan, Deputy Governor of the Provincial Waterworks Authority, participated in the meeting via a conference call from Hat Yai District. He reported that water distribution had increased from 60% to 80% and outlined plans to reach 100% by December 3rd. The water distribution efforts are prioritizing Songkhla Hospital as a critical area for service resumption.
Despite progress, Mr. Suthat noted challenges with numerous broken pipes affecting water pressure. Repair teams are working diligently at various points along the distribution network to resolve these issues. In the interim, water trucks from agencies including the Waterworks Authority, the military, and the Royal Irrigation Department are providing essential support in downstream areas. Drinking and tap water supplies are available at all shelters across the region.
In response to inquiries about resources, Mr. Suthat confirmed that the Waterworks Authority has deployed 18 trucks, with an additional 25 trucks from other agencies, totaling 43 trucks dedicated to servicing the Songkhla area.
