Pipat Pledges to Resolve Overcharge Issue on Red Line Electric Train

Bangkok: "Pipat" admits he forgot to consider that some people do not have EMV cards and is ready to find a solution. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, addressed the public outcry over the Red Line electric train policy, which charges 40 baht all day but is actually charged 42 baht. He questioned why the complaints were being made, and how the charges could be higher, given that the 40 baht rate had already been announced. The government should have ended the announcement, and thus the 42 baht charge was a flaw.

According to Thai News Agency, when asked again whether the extra 2 baht was a service charge or tax, Mr. Pipat confirmed that there was definitely none, and that he was not yet aware of it, but would go and check.

When asked if the policy was only applicable to EMV cards, Mr. Pipat said he would address the issue, as he had forgotten that some people do not have such cards.
