Thai Chamber of Commerce Assures Economic Stability Amid Parliamentary Dissolution

Bangkok: The Thai Chamber of Commerce has expressed confidence that the dissolution of parliament will not impact the country's economy. The President of the Chamber emphasized the role of the caretaker government, which can continue governance under the legal framework, and urged the swift conduction of elections to ensure continuity and progress.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Poj Aramwattananon, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Thai Chambers of Commerce, stated that economic growth is unlikely to be affected if elections are conducted promptly. He highlighted that key economic stimulus measures have already been sanctioned by the Cabinet, allowing the caretaker government to manage various aspects of governance, except those restricted by the Constitution.

The constitutional restrictions include prohibitions on approving projects that impose obligations on the next Cabinet, restrictions on personnel appointments, and limitations on using reserve funds without prior approval from the Election Commission. Despite these limitations, Mr. Aramwattananon reassured that ongoing situations, such as those on the Thai-Cambodian border and flood recovery in economic centers like Hat Yai, will remain unaffected.

The Chamber hopes the new government will prioritize long-term economic development, educational reform, and a systematic disaster response plan to address the vulnerabilities posed by climate change. These initiatives are deemed crucial for national progress and are expected to be set as a national agenda post-elections, adhering to the legal timeline.
