Cambodia’s BM-21 Rocket Launchers Cause Fatality in Kantaralak District

Kantharalak: One person in Kantharalak was killed in a BM-21 attack. Multiple rounds of BM-21 rocket launchers fired by Cambodia today have resulted in the first fatality in Kantaralak district, Sisaket province, in the second round of clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border.

According to Thai News Agency, the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border in Kantaralak District, Sisaket Province, continues to escalate after clashes entered their eighth day. Around noon today, Cambodia fired a barrage of BM-21 rocket launchers. Numerous shells landed in Saothongchai Subdistrict, resulting in the death of one villager, later identified as 63-year-old Mr. Dor Patchaphan, who was killed in his backyard near a bomb shelter. The same volley of rockets, estimated to be around three, also damaged approximately three houses, with some being completely destroyed by explosions and fire. There are no further reports of injuries as most residents have been evacuated to temporary shelters.

Meanwhile, an Al Jazeera news team is on the scene observing and reporting, which will reinforce to the world that Cambodia deliberately attacked civilian targets, seriously violating international conventions and humanitarian principles. Artillery fire can still be heard intermittently.

At 2:30 PM, a royal cremation ceremony will be held for Sergeant Major Ananda Udon at a temple in Khukhan District, Sisaket Province, who sacrificed his life in the Battle of Phu Makheua, on the front lines near Preah Vihear, four days ago.
