Bangkok: China issued its second statement, urging Thailand and Cambodia to cease fire, underscoring their inseparable relationship as neighbors. Foreign news agencies reported that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesman Guo Jiakun, expressed grave concern over the tense situation along the Thai-Cambodian border. The ministry urged all parties to exercise utmost restraint and take all possible measures to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible. This marks the second time China has called for an end to the conflict.
According to Thai News Agency, Chinese reporters inquired about China's stance on the ongoing conflict, including China's role in promoting a ceasefire. Mr. Guo Jiakun stated that, as a friendly neighbor to both Thailand and Cambodia, China is deeply concerned about the situation and expresses its deepest condolences for the losses suffered by the people of both countries as a result of the conflict. He emphasized that Thailand and Cambodia are inseparable neighbors, and treating neighbors with kindness and goodwill is a core value.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that the most urgent priorities at present are a ceasefire and the protection of civilians, expressing hope that both sides will consider the interests of peace and stability along the border, as well as the well-being of the people, and jointly take measures to achieve a ceasefire and de-escalate tensions as soon as possible.
Furthermore, China has maintained close communication with both Thailand and Cambodia through various channels and levels, acting as a mediator, promoting dialogue, and providing platforms to create conditions for discussions between the two sides in accordance with the wishes of both Thailand and Cambodia.
Mr. Guo Jiakun reiterated that China supports direct dialogue and consultations between Thailand and Cambodia, supports the role of ASEAN, especially Malaysia, and supports seeking mutually acceptable solutions within the ASEAN framework. He affirmed that China will continue to play a constructive role in promoting a ceasefire and the restoration of peace between Thailand and Cambodia.
