Army Spokesperson Confirms Thailand Attacks Only Military Targets

Bangkok: The Thai Army spokesperson refuted Cambodia's claim that Cambodia used historical sites as military bases, stating that all operations were within the framework of international law. He affirmed that Thailand only attacked military targets to disrupt the capabilities of the Cambodian military and that the situation is progressing positively and is under control.

According to Thai News Agency, on December 18, 2025, at the Royal Thai Army Headquarters, Major General Winthai Suvari, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, clarified the situation regarding an infographic published by Cambodian national television alleging that Thai forces engaged in destructive warfare against Cambodia, causing damage to infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and important buildings, as well as damaging World Heritage sites and historical and cultural monuments. Major General Suvari stated that the allegations were untrue and a complete distortion of the facts. The Royal Thai Army affirms that Thai operations targeted only military objectives, and that there is supporting information and evidence to support these claims, which will be presented at an appropriate time and opportunity.

Regarding historical sites or structures, the Royal Thai Army confirms that, as these areas are clearly involved in military operations both directly and indirectly, Cambodia is responsible for any impact on these sites. The use of these locations for military activities that threaten Thailand immediately results in the loss of their protective rights. Furthermore, any military action taken by Thailand against these targets will be limited to the specific points involved, as necessary, or only in the areas truly relevant.

"We can confirm there will be absolutely no impact on unrelated civilians. This is to limit the damage to the specific area involved, not to cause widespread destruction across the entire area, within the framework of international law and humanitarian principles," the army spokesperson said.

Regarding the latest situation, Major General Winthai stated that overall, operations are proceeding according to plan, and there are currently no issues of concern. Most of the key military objectives included in the Army's plan have been achieved, with only a few remaining that require careful attention to minimize losses on our side, in accordance with the policy and concerns of the Army Commander.

Currently, the objectives assigned by the Army Commander are to establish a border along the Thai operational line and to expedite the destruction of Cambodia's military capabilities that pose a threat to Thailand.

"Overall, the military operations so far have been promising, despite some remaining obstacles. However, the overall results remain positive for Thailand," the Army spokesman said.
