Bangkok: The Royal Thai Air Force has reiterated that the operation in Poipet was strictly military-oriented, asserting that clear evidence separates civilians from the attack area and urging Cambodia to halt its aggressive actions. The Air Force emphasized that failure to do so would compel Thailand to continue safeguarding its citizens.
According to Thai News Agency, at a joint press conference held at the Royal Thai Army Television Station, Air Chief Marshal Praphas Sonjaidee, the Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force, clarified that the air operation targeted military establishments, which were used for moving and supporting weapons. This action followed the detection of BM-21 rocket attacks on civilian territories in Thailand.
The Assistant Commander-in-Chief highlighted that the target selection process involved rigorous intelligence gathering to ensure that military targets were distinctly separated from civilian areas. The Air Force's efforts were in support of requests from ground units, ensuring that operations were compliant with international military principles.
Thailand has urged Cambodia to cease its violent actions and weapons attacks into Thai territory. The Royal Thai Air Force confirms that any continued aggression will obligate Thailand to defend its people actively.
Air Chief Marshal Praphas further noted that international military ethics dictate that weapons should not be stored in civilian-populated areas due to the risk posed to civilian lives. He stressed that using civilian areas for military purposes contradicts the ethics of professional soldiers.
The Thai military clarified that its actions are not directed against the Cambodian populace but are a response to decisions by Cambodian authorities. The Royal Thai Air Force assures that its operations are transparent, evidence-backed, and in strict adherence to international law and humanitarian principles.
The Air Force maintains that if opposing forces persist in their assaults, Thailand will remain resolute in its defense measures to protect the nation and its citizens.
