Gunman Gan Vellfire Remanded in Custody as Police Oppose Bail

Bangkok: "Gan Vellfire," also known as Mr. Songkran, has been remanded in custody following police concerns that he might flee if granted bail. The 37-year-old suspect, wanted under an arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court, faces charges of intentional homicide, attempted homicide, and violations of the Firearms Act.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident took place in the early hours of December 24, 2025. Mr. Songkran allegedly drove his Toyota Vellfire van past the Si Ratch Expressway toll booth before shooting and killing a 34-year-old man with a 9mm handgun. The attack occurred near the entrance of the expressway, after which the suspect fled the scene.

Police from Prachachuen Police Station quickly acted, obtaining an arrest warrant from the Criminal Court on the same day of the incident. The suspect was apprehended in Trat Province while on the run and subsequently handed over to investigating officers for charging and prosecution.

Investigators require additional time to question witnesses, conduct a criminal background check on the suspect, and await forensic examination results of the seized evidence. For these reasons, a 12-day detention period has been requested, spanning from December 26, 2025, to January 6, 2026. The officers objected to bail, citing the severity of the crime and potential for flight risk, and the court granted the detention request.

No relatives or lawyers appeared to file a bail application for Mr. Songkran, resulting in his transfer to Bangkok Special Prison by correctional officers.
