According to Thai News Agency, Police General Kittirat Phanphet, the National Police Chief, addressed the criticism and complaints regarding an audio clip alleging bribery in Police Region 8. He confirmed that the National Police Office's actions are not delayed and are within the established timeframe. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation of the evidence to ensure fairness to all parties. He also mentioned the case of Police Major General Kriangsak Noonkleang, the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Police Commander, who has publicly spoken out about allegations of using 30 million baht to buy his position in a smear campaign.
The Police Chief affirmed his impartiality, stating that the accused has the right to clarify the facts and demonstrate their innocence through the proper process. He has instructed the Inspector General of the National Police to investigate the facts on the ground. Although the commander admitted that the voice in the clip is his, the content of the conversation needs careful consideration to determine its nature. The investigation will ascertain whether it pertains to policy directives, instructions on work procedures, or illegal acceptance of bribes.
The Royal Thai Police stated that any necessary action will be taken based on evidence, ensuring the investigation is thorough and complete. If wrongdoing is found, they are prepared to proceed both disciplinarily and criminally, without partiality. The perception of recurring issues in Police Region 8, such as buying and selling positions and bribery, is acknowledged as a responsibility of high-ranking officials in the area, under the supervision of the Police Region 8 Commander.
