Bangkok: "Tiger striped peanuts," a superfood renowned for its brain health and fat reduction properties, has been confirmed as "true news" by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. The ministry urges the public to verify information before sharing it.
According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) has validated the claims that "striped peanuts nourish the brain and eyes, and lower blood pressure and cholesterol." The public is encouraged to rely on official information when deciding to believe or share news. Mr. Wethang Puangsap, a spokesperson for the ministry, highlighted the Anti-Fake News Center of Thailand's (AFNC) efforts in monitoring false reports, in line with policies directed by Minister Chaiyanok Chidchob. The goal is to address security and social threats while raising awareness about technology-related crime and misinformation.
As of January 19, 2026, AFNC identified 158,352 messages, with 4,882 requiring verification. Social Listening was the primary source of leads, followed by Line Official, Facebook, and a website. Out of 37 cases needing investigation, 9 have been verified by relevant agencies. Among these, the tiger striped peanuts story was confirmed true, while a fake news story about the Government Savings Bank's back-to-school loan was debunked.
The claim about tiger striped peanuts has been authenticated by the DE, in partnership with the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health. These peanuts are beneficial for brain and eye health, rich in magnesium and folate, and support the nervous system and memory. They also help lower blood pressure and cholesterol, contain unsaturated fats, and are high in fiber, which enhances blood vessel elasticity and prevents clogged arteries.
Regarding digestive health, the dietary fiber in tiger striped peanuts stimulates bowel function, preventing constipation. They are also high in protein, aiding muscle development, and are a good source of natural minerals. Antioxidants like anthocyanins in the peanuts help combat free radicals and reduce cancer risks. However, due to their high fiber content, it's advisable to consume them in moderation, starting with small amounts and drinking plenty of water to aid digestion.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society remains concerned about the public's exposure to fake news on online and social media platforms. Unawareness can lead to misinformation, misunderstandings, property damage, and broader societal impacts. Therefore, the public is urged to trust and share only information from official agencies and verify news or website links before taking action.
