Bangkok: The Chinese government is actively sending relief supplies to support those affected by the ongoing Thai-Cambodian conflict.
According to Thai News Agency, the humanitarian aid from China was officially handed over at a ceremony held at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Samut Prakan Province. Representing the Chinese government, Ambassador Zhang Jianwei attended the event, while the Thai side was led by Minister of Defence General Natthaphol Nakpanich, assigned by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul.
The People's Republic of China has committed to providing humanitarian aid valued at 10 million yuan. The first shipment, which arrived on January 30, 2026, included 10,000 blankets, 400 folding beds, 4,000 mosquito nets, 8,000 fans, and 15,000 winter jackets, amounting to 8,888 boxes. A second delivery is scheduled for February 1, 2026, with 3,600 folding beds, 4,000 mattresses, 36,000 mosquito nets, and 4,900 home repair tool sets, totaling 3,150 boxes.
Discussions during the handover ceremony also focused on humanitarian cooperation and disaster management. Thailand expressed appreciation for China's previous support following the 8.2 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar in March 2025, which included technical analysis and academic advice, helping Thailand enhance its disaster response capabilities.
The Thai government further acknowledged China's role in capacity building, particularly through educational exchanges in disaster management and humanitarian assistance. The collaboration within the ASEAN-China framework, specifically through the ASEAN-China Centre for Emergency Management Cooperation, was highlighted as a key initiative for strengthening regional cooperation in disaster management.
The Thai government expressed gratitude for China's continued support and affirmed its intention to utilize the aid to alleviate suffering effectively. The Ministry of Interior, through the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, has been tasked with delivering the aid to the affected border provinces.
