Bangkok: A clever Mongolian gang was busted for hiding crystal meth inside capacitors and circuit boards before shipping it back to their home country. Police from the Narcotics Suppression Division (NSD) have apprehended a cunning Mongolian gang that was hiding crystal meth (ice) in capacitor blocks attached to circuit boards for export to other countries.
According to Thai News Agency, the Narcotics Suppression Police Command is continuing its pursuit of a transnational drug trafficking network. Most recently, they arrested a 46-year-old Mongolian man after he attempted to smuggle 150 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice) hidden inside capacitors back to his home country. Further investigation revealed another 244 grams of methamphetamine cleverly concealed inside an electrical transformer. Authorities are now expanding the investigation to track down the entire network.
On February 2, 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Achayon Kraithong, Commander of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB), ordered Pol. Maj. Gen. Woraphot Disyabut, Deputy Commander of the NSB, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Nopsit Mitphakdee, Commander of NSB Division 1, to intensify efforts to suppress transnational drug trafficking rings operating in Thailand and using the country as a transit point and export hub to other countries.
Following an incident on January 21, 2026, officers from Division 1, Narcotics Suppression Bureau 1, discovered a suspicious package at a shipping company in the Phetchaburi New Road area. Inside the package, they found 150 grams of methamphetamine (ice), a Category 1 narcotic, cleverly concealed inside a capacitor, with the destination marked Mongolia. Further investigation revealed the sender to be a 46-year-old Mongolian man who changed his address every 2-4 days to avoid arrest and used another person's passport to conceal his identity while sending packages. Authorities gathered evidence and obtained an arrest warrant from the court on charges of "selling and attempting to export Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine) without permission, an offense affecting state security."
Investigators learned that a Mongolian man was hiding at a hotel in the Sukhumvit 36 area. They raided the hotel and arrested the suspect along with two other Mongolian nationals while they were in their room. A search of the room revealed an additional 244 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice), cleverly concealed inside capacitors installed on circuit boards and several modified electrical transformers to evade detection. The suspects and seized items were handed over to the Narcotics Suppression Division 1 for legal proceedings. Authorities are also intensifying efforts to combat transnational drug trafficking via parcel post and expanding the investigation to include potential accomplices in Thailand and abroad.
