Bangkok: The recount of votes at polling station 10, district 15, Khan Na Yao, Bangkok has concluded with the People's Party emerging victorious in both the district and party-list ballots. The referendum results also indicated a majority of votes in favor.
According to Thai News Agency, the recount was necessitated by equipment damage caused by heavy rain on February 8, 2016. Despite the weather-related challenges, officials successfully preserved the ballot boxes, facilitating a smooth recount process that lasted approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. The recount was observed by members of the public, senators, representatives from political parties, and the media.
Post-recount, the counting committee verified the results against the number of ballots, subsequently securing the ballots and tally sheets in the ballot boxes with cable ties. The vote count reports for the party-list and constituency MPs (Form 5/18 and Form 5/18) and the referendum (Form 4/7) were displayed at the polling station before the materials were returned to the District 15 office.
In the constituency-based Member of Parliament election, Mr. Wittawat Tichawanich of the People's Party received 224 votes, leading the pack. He was followed by Mr. Pholapoom Vipattipoomprathet of the Pheu Thai Party with 103 votes, and Mr. Thanom Onketuphol of the Bhumjaithai Party with 81 votes. Other candidates garnered fewer votes, with the total number of valid ballots cast at 486, alongside 8 invalid ballots and 29 abstentions, summing up to 523 ballots cast.
