Senator Nanthana Urges Election Commission to Resolve Issues Before Certifying Election Results

Bangkok: Senator Nantana Nantavaropas has called on the Election Commission to address outstanding issues before announcing the parliamentary election results. She criticized Deputy Prime Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn for proposing to form a government prior to complete verification, which she believes might constitute interference.

According to Thai News Agency, Senator Nantana expressed concerns about unresolved matters such as the accurate number of voters, voting process discrepancies, and allegations of "ballot stuffing." She emphasized the importance of resolving these issues to maintain public confidence in the electoral process.

Senator Nantana also pointed out that Deputy Prime Minister Pipat's suggestion to form a government before the traditional Songkran festival could be seen as intervening in the Election Commission's work. The senator stressed that the government formation should only proceed once the election results have been thoroughly verified.

There is a call for the Election Commission to clarify any doubts to the public promptly and to consider the Ombudsman's forthcoming petition to the Constitutional Court regarding the election process. Further clarification from the Election Commission is anticipated by February 27th.

Senator Nantana warned that hasty approval of election results might lead to perceptions of unfair advantage for certain political parties.
