Bangkok: Suphanat Meenchainan, a prospective Bangkok MP from the People's Party, has publicly criticized Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol Nawarat, the Minister of Justice, for changing his position on the involvement of politicians in a scammer case. Suphanat highlighted discrepancies between Ruttapol's statements before and after the recent election.
According to Thai News Agency, Suphanat referenced a February 24th interview where Minister Ruttapol assured the public that "no politicians were found to be involved in the scammer gang." This statement contradicts an earlier interview on January 8th, in which Ruttapol claimed that a total of 10 politicians and MPs were involved with online gambling websites and scammers. Suphanat's post included the caption, "Before the election - involved; After the election - not involved," drawing attention to the apparent reversal.
Further commentary on the post questioned the implications of the election outcome on the scammer case. One comment stated, "The election is over, Bhumjaithai won = no more scammers. Does this count as an achievement of the Bhumjaithai government?" This sentiment reflects public skepticism and concern over the transparency and integrity of the investigation into political involvement in online gambling and scams.
Rakchanok Srinok, also known as "Ice," added to the discussion with a comment suggesting that implicated politicians are now positioning themselves for ministerial roles. The unfolding controversy has fueled criticism online, highlighting the need for a clear and consistent fact-finding process by the Justice Ministry.
