Bangkok: The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) announced the successful rescue of 215 Thai nationals from the volatile regions of the Middle East, as the situation continues to require urgent civilian evacuations due to escalating tensions.
According to Thai News Agency, the Center for Situation Administration (CSAA) has classified the ongoing events as a humanitarian crisis, necessitating the establishment of a dedicated monitoring center by the Ministry of Transport to oversee the situation and ensure the safety of affected individuals.
Mr. Panidol Patchimsawat, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Acting Director-General of the Department of Information, addressed the media on the current conditions, highlighting that missile and drone attacks have intensified, particularly in Iraq and Lebanon. These attacks have targeted areas associated with the United States, causing increased evacuations. Mr. Panidol provided updates on the evacuation efforts, noting the departure of 62 Thai nationals from Iran, with coordination efforts involving multiple international entities to ensure their safe passage to Turkey.
Airspace restrictions pose additional challenges, with several countries closing their airspace to commercial flights. However, the UAE has reopened limited flights to assist stranded passengers, and no casualties have been reported. Thai citizens in high-risk areas are advised to leave promptly and maintain communication with the Royal Thai Embassy and Consulates General.
Efforts continue to bring Thai nationals back home, with the Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara tasked with assisting evacuees from Iraq. Saudi Arabia remains a viable route for flights to Thailand, and discussions with private airlines are underway to increase evacuation flights. The UAE has resumed flights to Bangkok and Phuket, further facilitating the return of Thai citizens.
Mr. Jirarooj Sukulrat, Director of the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning, outlined the Ministry of Transport's comprehensive response to the crisis. The Ministry has implemented measures to ensure service quality, fair pricing, and service availability across air, sea, land, and rail transportation sectors. The Ministry is closely monitoring fare regulations and providing assistance to stranded passengers, while also addressing the impacts on freight transport to European countries.
The public is encouraged to report any transportation-related issues via the Ministry of Transport hotline or the Department of Land Transport hotline, available around the clock.
