Truck Driver Arrested After Fatal Collision with Police Car in Pathum Thani

Pathum thani: A young truck driver was arrested after a reckless act that led to a tragic accident involving a police car at a checkpoint, resulting in one officer's death and another's injury. The incident occurred when the truck, speeding through a Thanyaburi Police Station checkpoint, forced a police motorcycle off its course, causing it to crash into a utility pole. The collision claimed the life of Police Corporal Chaiwat Kongudom, 25, and left Police Sergeant Kowit Jaiching, 40, injured. The driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Maj. Gen. Peerapol Chotikasetthian, Commander of the Pathum Thani Provincial Police, along with an investigative team from Lam Luk Ka Police Station, swiftly launched an investigation to apprehend the suspect. The suspect, identified as Mr. Supoj, also known as Lek, aged 28, was located and arrested at a workers' residence in Bueng Kham Phroi Subdistrict, Lam Luk Ka District. Despite resisting arrest and claiming innocence, he was taken into custody and brought to Thanyaburi Police Station for questioning. During the process, he denied all charges.

During the investigation, police found opened beer cans and drug paraphernalia in the truck, which were seized as evidence. Pol. Maj. Gen. Peerapol stated that additional charges would be filed against the suspect, including driving under the influence of alcohol and drug use. The suspect confessed to consuming 2-3 narcotic pills and mentioned that he had previously undergone drug rehabilitation. The truck has been handed over to Lam Luk Ka Police Station for further legal proceedings.
