Royal Thai Navy Seizes 180 Kilograms of Crystal Methamphetamine in Nakhon Phanom

Nakhon phanom: Naval Border Patrol in Nakhon Phanom seized 180 kg of crystal methamphetamine worth 54 million baht.

According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Navy, through the Nakhon Phanom Naval Border Patrol Unit, successfully intercepted a large cache of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice," along the Mekong River. The operation, which unfolded on April 4, 2026, resulted in the seizure of 180 kilograms of the narcotic, with an estimated street value of 54 million baht. The suspects involved had reportedly abandoned the drugs and evaded capture.

Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyapan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, disclosed that the operation was initiated by the Mekong River Patrol Unit (MRPU) in Nakhon Phanom, following intelligence received earlier that evening. The patrol, conducted along Highway 212 near kilometer marker 232 in Ban Phon Thong, Phon Thong Subdistrict, Ban Phaeng District, led officers to discover six sacks filled with the illicit substance. The perpetrators are believed to have fled the scene, using the cover of darkness and their local knowledge to escape detection.

In the aftermath of the discovery, officers conducted an exhaustive search of the area and transported all confiscated materials to Ban Phaeng Naval Station. This move aims to facilitate legal proceedings and aid in the broader investigation to dismantle the criminal network responsible for the drug trafficking.
