Cambodia’s Provocative Banner Sparks Tension Near Thai Border

Sisaket: Cambodia has erected a mysterious blue banner near Chom Khae, moving its base closer to the Thai border, raising tensions between the two nations. Thai soldiers have requested the Cambodian authorities to desist from actions that could lead to conflict, emphasizing the importance of both countries respecting each other's boundaries.

According to Thai News Agency, a video clip reportedly recorded on April 24 reveals the current situation along the Thai-Cambodian border near Chong Cham Tae in Sisaket province. The footage shows Thai soldiers in formation, conducting vigilant patrols in their designated areas, while on the Cambodian side, troop movements and base relocations near the barbed wire fence have been noted. Blue fabric, akin to shade netting, has been prominently displayed, possibly indicating coordinates or boundaries, which has further fueled suspicions.

The Thai military has communicated with Cambodian officials at the command level, urging them to refrain from actions that might lead to conflict or inappropriate situations. They have requested both sides to maintain a distance, avoid provocations, and collaborate with Cambodian commanders to have the banner removed.

Despite the absence of direct clashes or violence, the atmosphere along the border remains fraught with tension, marked by signs of provocation and sporadic pressure tactics. Although the activities are taking place within Cambodian territory, they are perceived as exceeding standard base operations and are considered provocative rather than routine border patrols.
