Bangkok: The wildfire situation in northern Japan continues to worsen as flames advance toward residential areas. Authorities have expanded evacuation zones, affecting more than 3,000 residents.
According to Thai News Agency, two major wildfires in Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Japan, are causing significant damage. Both fires began on Wednesday in Osuji city, one in a mountainous region and another approximately 10 kilometers southeast. Aerial photographs reveal that the total affected area is about 7,350 rai (2,400 acres), with at least 4,562 rai (1,264 acres) confirmed burned by Friday.
Over 1,000 firefighters from outside the area have been mobilized to combat the blaze under extremely dry conditions. They are working tirelessly using ground efforts and water-carrying aircraft during daylight to control the fire. Authorities have ordered 3,233 people, one-third of the local population, to evacuate to five shelters, including a location in the nearby town of Kamaishi.
NHK, Japan's public broadcaster, reported no injuries or deaths at present, although at least eight buildings, including a residential house, have been destroyed. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, taking all possible measures to prevent the fire from spreading further into the community.
