Bangkok: The Prime Minister has announced that the Economic Cabinet is not yet finalized and is working swiftly to consider the emergency decree for borrowing money for submission to the Cabinet.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who also serves as the Minister of Interior and leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, explained the status of the Economic Cabinet meeting. He noted that the meeting scheduled for Monday, May 4th, would be postponed due to the public holiday, with plans to reschedule for the following week. Anutin clarified that there is no requirement for an immediate Economic Cabinet meeting as the cabinet's composition has only been recently finalized.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Ekniti Nitithanprapha, will be responsible for setting the agenda, which will include routine and priority items. Anutin emphasized that there is no mandate for issues to pass through the Economic Cabinet before being presented to the Cabinet on a Tuesday. He also mentioned that the Economic Cabinet involves members from various sectors, including the private sector, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Thai Industries, and the Thai Bankers' Association.
When questioned about the emergency decree for borrowing money slated for the Cabinet meeting on May 5th, Anutin stated that efforts are underway to expedite the process. He refrained from confirming a specific budget limit, instead urging patience until the matter is approved by the Cabinet. Anutin acknowledged that several meetings have taken place to evaluate the reasons, necessity, and potential benefits of the decree.
