Search Underway for Thai Woman Who Mysteriously Disappeared in Laos

Bangkok: The Mirror Foundation met with the Royal Thai Police spokesperson to request assistance in tracking down a Thai woman who mysteriously disappeared in Laos, while her American ex-husband fled back to his country. Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, welcomed Mr. Ekalak Lumchomkhae, head of the Missing Persons Information Center of the Mirror Foundation, who brought the family of Ms. Tasanee Saelee to meet with him. They submitted a letter requesting assistance in coordinating the search for Ms. Tasanee, who mysteriously disappeared in the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Tasanee Saelee, 46, from Phetchabun Province, left Thailand for a trip to the Lao People's Democratic Republic with her American ex-husband, Mr. George, on December 22, 2025. She has been out of contact with her family since December 30. Mr. George returned to Thailand alone through the Nong Khai immigration checkpoint on December 31, 2025, and immediately traveled back to the United States on January 1, 2026, without providing any further information about Ms. Tasanee. Subsequently, on January 7, Ms. Rattana, Ms. Tasanee's mother, filed a missing person report at the Khao Kho Police Station in Phetchabun Province.

Information gathered by the Mirror Foundation revealed that Ms. Tasanee and Mr. George had been in a relationship for over 12 years, but had experienced ongoing domestic violence. Mr. George had previously threatened to take Ms. Tasanee to Laos and kill her to prevent anyone from finding her, and also threatened to burn down the house they shared. Ms. Tasanee had to report the incident to the Khao Kho Police Station, who intervened and requested that Mr. George be deported to his country.

The Mirror Foundation conducted an investigation in the Lao People's Democratic Republic and located the car rental shop that the couple used in Vang Vieng. However, due to limitations in their authority, they have been unable to conduct forensic examinations of the vehicle. Therefore, they are requesting assistance from the Royal Thai Police in coordinating the investigation and locating Ms. Tasanee to bring her back to her family as soon as possible.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong said that the Royal Thai Police, through its Foreign Affairs Division, will coordinate with the police of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, as well as share information with Khao Kho Police Station, to quickly locate Ms. Tasanee.

The Mirror Foundation has released CCTV footage from the Vang Vieng toll booth in Laos, which shows that on December 29, 2015, a rental car passed through the entry point with Ms. Tasanee and her ex-husband, Mr. George, traveling together. However, on December 31, 2015, the same car passed through the exit point with only Mr. George in it.
