Narathiwat: Captain Montri appeared before police following a summons in connection with the shooting of MP Kamolsak. Commander Montri faced investigators after MP Kamolsak filed a complaint accusing him of involvement in attempted murder.
According to Thai News Agency, on March 20th, assailants used a four-door pickup truck belonging to the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) in Narathiwat as a getaway vehicle and an M16 rifle to fire upon the car of Mr. Kamolsak Leewamae, a Member of Parliament for Narathiwat Constituency 5 from the Prachachart Party. The incident occurred in front of his residence in Bajoh District, Narathiwat Province. The driver, Mr. Uchalam Kohloh, and his escort, Police Sergeant Harirak Heemmina, sustained serious injuries.
Today, investigators issued summonses to Commander Montri and Lieutenant Commander Decho, following an additional complaint filed by Mr. Kamolsak Leewamae against the two soldiers for hiring, being the principal perpetrator, or supporting attempted murder. They were ordered to appear at the Provincial Police Headquarters, where Police Major General Thares, as the head of the investigative team, personally participated in the questioning.
Reporters indicated that Captain Montri arrived with his lawyer, dressed in a khaki Marine Corps uniform. Lieutenant Commander Decho was not yet seen. Following the questioning, investigators will formally charge both individuals. They will then request a detention warrant from the Narathiwat Provincial Court to consider whether to grant bail. The court will assess whether the suspects might interfere with the case or flee. This process is expected to be completed tomorrow.
