Marines Charged with Aiding Attempted Murder of MP Kamolsak

Narathiwat: Charges have been filed against two Marines, Montri and Decho, for aiding and abetting the attempted murder of MP Kamolsak. Police have charged two naval officers, Montri and Decho, with aiding and abetting attempted murder with premeditation in the shooting of MP Kamolsak. They have been sent to the Narathiwat Provincial Court to request a detention warrant. Both pleaded not guilty and requested bail of 200,000 baht each. According to Thai News Agency, at the conference room of the Narathiwat Provincial Police Headquarters, Lieutenant Commander Decho Rattanaphan avoided reporters by reporting to Police Major General Prayong Kotrasakha, the Narathiwat Provincial Police Commander, as summoned by the investigating officers. He was accompanied by Captain Montri Toprasert. Investigators from the Narathiwat Provincial Police and the Police Region 9 conducted separate interrogations in different rooms, based on the evidence collected. The interrogation of both men lasted over 5 hours. Both denied all c harges, with their lawyers present. Following the interrogation, the investigating officers charged them with aiding and abetting attempted murder with premeditation and abetting. They were then taken to the Narathiwat Provincial Court to request a detention warrant, with the police opposing bail. Later, Pol. Maj. Gen. Prayong revealed that the police had charged the two suspects with aiding and abetting attempted murder with premeditation, based on the evidence already gathered. This does not mean the charges were solely based on the complaint filed by Mr. Kamolsak Leewamoh, a Member of Parliament from the Prachachart Party and the alleged victim. Both suspects denied all charges, and the police objected to bail, arguing that while they initially appeared in response to summonses and showed no signs of attempting to flee, the investigators believed they would flee after the charges were filed. The suspects have the right to apply for bail. The two soldiers were escorted away in a van, wearing hats and black face masks, and refused to answer any questions from reporters. During questioning, they denied all charges. Their lawyer has applied for bail of 200,000 baht. Regarding the detention, the Narathiwat Provincial Police Commander explained that although the suspect initially appeared as summoned and showed no signs of attempting to flee, after the charges were formally filed, the investigating officers deemed it necessary to request a detention warrant from the court during the investigation. This was due to concerns that the suspect might attempt to escape later. The police have acted within their authority and continuously gathered evidence until they were sufficiently confident in filing the charges. As for the additional complaint filed by the Member of Parliament, this is part of the process. However, the police affirm that they are handling the case based on all the evidence collected, not solely on the complaint. They also confirmed that there has been no withholding of information or favoritism towards any party, as reported in the media. Furthermore, if the investigation extends to those who hired the suspect or uncovers additional evidence linking other individuals, legal action will be taken to the fullest extent without exception.
