Bangkok: Working together, Thailand is strategizing to address global warming with the collaborative efforts of the Department of Climate Change Mitigation and PTT, focusing on research, innovation, and technology development.
According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCNE), led by Dr. Pirun Saiyasitpanich and his team, recently held the first Working Group Meeting on Cooperation in Research, Innovation, and Development of Mechanisms to Support Climate Change Technologies with PTT Public Company Limited. The meeting was attended by key figures from both organizations, including Mr. Rattakorn Kampanatsanyakorn from PTT, and took place at the DCNE headquarters.
This meeting was part of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at fostering research and innovation to support climate change technologies, in collaboration with the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). The main objective is to promote information exchange and collaboration on technologies like carbon dioxide capture and storage, hydrogen technology, and other related innovations. The focus is on developing policies and mechanisms that will lead to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, ultimately steering Thailand towards net-zero emissions and a low-carbon society.
The working group secretariat highlighted the progress made in 2025, including legislative developments for implementing CCS/CCUS technology to support Thailand's NDC 3.0 commitments. Discussions also covered the impact of carbon dioxide on ecosystems and integrating heat index measurement data with digital platforms. The agenda for 2026 includes PTT providing technical data and research support for CCS/CCUS technology in partnership with NSTDA, aiming to influence national policy. The meeting emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving concrete results in climate change mitigation through shared technology and policy knowledge.
