Bo phong: A fire broke out at Somdej Phra Sangkharach Hospital in the middle of the night. Officials frantically evacuated patients. The hospital has since reopened and is operating normally.
According to Thai News Agency, a fire broke out at 1:30 AM at Somdej Phra Sangkharach Hospital in Bo Phong Subdistrict, Nakhon Luang District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The fire originated in the medical technology laboratory on the second floor. Firefighters used water hoses to extinguish the flames, taking approximately 30 minutes to bring it under control. The computer desks in the room were completely destroyed by the fire, and the ceiling and walls showed signs of burnt damage.
During the fire, the fire alarm sounded. Staff and nurses quickly evacuated approximately 20 male and female patients in wheelchairs from the building to the outside area. Five patients with semi-critical conditions were transported to ambulances provided by the Phutthaisawan Foundation. After the fire was extinguished, non-critical patients were moved to other hospital buildings, while those with semi-critical conditions remained in the foundation's ambulances for safety. Initially, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities.
This morning, the hospital has reopened for normal service, both for outpatients and inpatients. Patients who were evacuated from the building last night are currently being safely cared for on the 3rd and 4th floors of the inpatient building. Public service areas, the pharmacy, and the emergency room are operating as usual.
Dr. Prasert Tangjittham, director of Somdej Phra Sangkharaj Hospital, revealed that the situation has returned to over 90% normal. The blood collection laboratory was damaged by fire, so blood samples will be sent for testing to network hospitals within the public health system. This may take 1-2 days before normal operations can resume. The second floor where the fire occurred had no patients and no nighttime services, so no one was affected.
