Severe Summer Storm Topples 73 Power Poles in Lopburi, Affecting Over 2,000 Residents

Lopburi: A severe summer storm hit Lopburi's Ban Mi District, toppling 73 high-voltage power poles and affecting more than 2,000 residents. The storm caused significant damage to both infrastructure and homes, leaving many without electricity. According to Thai News Agency, the storm swept through Ban Mi District, particularly impacting areas along the Chai Nat-Pa Sak canal road in Ban Nong Kwean Hak, Phuka Subdistrict. The damage extended to 121 houses across several subdistricts, including Nong Tao, Nong Sai Khao, Don Dueng, and Chiang Nga, impacting 319 individuals. In response to the crisis, officials from the Provincial Electricity Authority in Lopburi Province have collaborated with other electricity authorities to address the situation. Efforts are underway to remove fallen power poles obstructing traffic, cut off electricity, and establish a temporary power distribution system. Mobile generators are being utilized to restore power to those affected. Today, Mr. Jetpong Choksawadworakul, District Ch ief of Ban Mi, along with Acting Sub-Lieutenant Narongrit Thongdee, Mayor of Phuka Subdistrict Administrative Organization, provided relief at Wat Phadungtham. They distributed tents to 16 residents whose homes suffered roof damage, offering temporary shelter and conducting urgent assessments of the damage. Additionally, the strong winds displaced the large dome covering the temple's multipurpose area, causing it to land 300 meters away, resulting in complete destruction. Abbot Rakkhitpanyo of Wat Phadungtham reported that several parts of the temple, including the roofs of the main chapel, monks' quarters, the vihara, the refectory, and the Dharma hall, sustained damage due to the storm.
