Cambodia Agrees to Extradite “Uncle Yot” to Thailand

Phnom penh: Cambodia has agreed to extradite Mr. Yot, also known as "Uncle Yot," back to Thailand. The Cambodian Regional Border Committee (RBC) contacted Thailand's 2nd Army Region in an effort to arrange the repatriation, aiming to ease tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border. Mr. Yot's wife expressed her joy upon hearing the news.

According to Thai News Agency, Brigadier General Nit Narong, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 4th Border Defense Force and Chairman of the RBC on the Cambodian side, initiated contact with the 2nd Army Area following the Cambodian Ministry of Interior's approval for the deportation. The arrangement demonstrates the ongoing and effective cooperation between the RBC committees of the two nations.

The extradition process involves a coordinated effort between the 2nd Army Region of Thailand and the 4th Border Patrol Force of Cambodia, utilizing established mechanisms. The handover of Mr. Yot was scheduled for 10:00 AM at the Chong Sangam border crossing in Phusing District, Sisaket Province. Major General Kampanat Vapansu, Chief of Staff of the 2nd Army Area and Chairman of the RBC (Return to Cambodia) Committee, will lead the Thai delegation. Brigadier General Nit Narong will head the Cambodian delegation. Mr. Yot, reportedly in good health, will be received by Major General Kampanat for his return to Thailand.

Sources from the 2nd Army Region credit the successful coordination of this extradition to the strong working relationship fostered under the direction of the 2nd Army Region's commander and the active involvement of the Suranaree Task Force. The streamlined cooperation through the RBC (Routine Border Committee) mechanism is seen as a positive development, helping to alleviate border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia.

Ms. Kannika Homkhajorn, Uncle Yot's wife, expressed her relief and happiness after waiting anxiously for over 20 days. She shared her excitement about her husband's return and her plans to prepare a meal for him as a gesture of her joy and relief.
