NSC Approves Export of Jet A-1 Fuel to Vietnam and Philippines

Bangkok: The National Security Council (NSC) has authorized the export of Jet A-1 aviation fuel to Vietnam and the Philippines, ensuring that this decision will not compromise domestic fuel availability. This move is part of a broader strategy to manage surplus fuel stock while maintaining Thailand's energy needs.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chatchai Bangchawad, Secretary-General of the NSC, explained that the council's recent meeting focused on two principal issues. The first was the regulation of fuel exports, which had been previously suspended. After deliberations with the Ministry of Energy, it was determined that exporting Jet A-1 fuel to the Philippines and Vietnam would not impact local fuel consumption. The Ministry of Energy retains the authority to halt exports if domestic shortages occur.

The council also addressed the nationality and personal status of long-term migrants in Thailand by extending the deadline for stateless ethnic groups to apply for citizenship by one year. Following a resolution from October 29, 2024, the Ministry of Interior is tasked with processing these applications. Currently, there are 480,000 individuals with unresolved nationality issues, and around 100,000 applications have been processed thus far. The extension aims to close the gap and ensure all eligible individuals can apply for citizenship. The process involves verification of registration records to maintain accurate data, and further investigations will be conducted for those not accounted for.

Moreover, the NSC meeting highlighted advancements in controlling goods along the Myanmar-Cambodia border. The Ministry of Defense has completed drafting an Emergency Decree on Border Goods Control, now approved by the Cabinet. This legislation aims to regulate the flow of goods across these borders by defining permissible types and quantities, adapting to the current geopolitical landscape.
