Local Government Exam Results Release Amidst Cheating Allegations

Bangkok: The results and answer sheets for the local government exam are set to be released this evening, as confirmed by Mr. Worasit Liengprasit, Deputy Minister of Interior. He noted that any irregularities detected in the scores would be escalated to the central government for further action, potentially leading to the removal of names from the list.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Worasit addressed ongoing rumors implicating five high-ranking officials, including a Director-General and a Deputy Director-General, in the civil service exam cheating scandal. He deferred questions on this matter to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. The Deputy Minister mentioned that the deadline for a fact-finding report was last Friday, but he had yet to meet with the Permanent Secretary for updates. Nevertheless, he stressed the importance of progressing with the investigation as planned.

Mr. Worasit elaborated on the standard procedures that the Permanent Secretary must follow in investigating the involvement of suspects. This involves a disciplinary committee to ascertain the extent of their connections, which may lead to further criminal charges if warranted. The verification of the exam results against the answer sheets for 15,000 candidates is due today, and any discrepancies found will be reported. Partner organizations like the DSI and the NACC are also involved in the investigation, and the Central Committee for Local Government Employees has the authority to cancel the list if necessary.

On the possibility of candidates moving up on the list, Mr. Worasit stated that those who passed based on their own merits would have their rights protected. In contrast, individuals with irregular scores would be removed, and the next eligible candidates would take their place. Further investigation will determine why the scores were irregular and whether these irregularities constitute a criminal offense.

Mr. Worasit expressed hope that the process would restore confidence in the Ministry of Interior. He emphasized the ministry's genuine intention to resolve the issue, noting the collaboration with various agencies. If corruption-related irregularities are confirmed, the investigation will continue to ensure accountability and transparency.
