Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has announced an ambitious recruitment drive, aiming to enlist over 18,000 volunteer soldiers for the year 2027.
According to Thai News Agency, this initiative marks a shift in the recruitment process, aligning with the Ministry of Defence's policy to replace the previous "online enlistment" project. Interested Thai men aged 18-26 are encouraged to apply for these positions, which span a voluntary four-year term. Applicants have the flexibility to select their enlistment shifts and units from a total of 221 options nationwide.
Volunteer soldiers will be conscripts under a four-year contract, receiving comprehensive training and integrating into military units much like regular soldiers. They will enjoy specific benefits, including a starting salary of 12,090 baht per month, accompanied by a special allowance of 2,880 baht per month for food or catering expenses. The Royal Thai Army aims to provide these soldiers with opportunities for career advancement, including eligibility to take entrance exams for Army Non-Commissioned Officer schools after two years of service.
The recruitment process is inclusive, welcoming Thai men regardless of their educational background. Categories for eligibility include conscripts aged 18-20, those aged 22-26 not previously assigned to active duty, Type 1 reservists discharged from active duty, and active-duty soldiers set for discharge in 2027. The initiative emphasizes enhancing income stability and providing career opportunities, alongside offering vocational skills training and educational opportunities during service.
Applications can be submitted online or at designated Army units and military recruitment offices from September 10, 2026, to January 24, 2027. The Royal Thai Army is committed to supporting the Ministry of Defence's reform policies, ensuring comprehensive care for volunteers and adapting welfare benefits to current needs.
