Government Increases Vigilance for Heavy Rainfall in Central Thailand

Bangkok:The government has heightened its monitoring efforts in response to anticipated heavy rainfall in the central and Chao Phraya regions. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has established a 24-hour war room to oversee the situation. According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri has directed relevant agencies to prepare for potential flooding by implementing water management systems, deploying machinery and personnel, and ensuring the safety of residents in high-risk areas. The Meteorological Department forecasts significant rainfall from September 24-27, 2026, particularly in Bangkok and nearby provinces, urging those in flood-prone areas to stay informed through official channels. The National Water Resources Office (NWRO) is collaborating with other agencies to monitor water levels in the Chao Phraya basin, focusing on vulnerable zones outside flood embankments. As of September 25, 2026, the Chao Phraya Dam is managing a water flow of 1,750 cubic mete rs per second, with specific volumes diverted into flood control systems to regulate water levels. Additionally, 12 water pumps have been installed in various provinces to aid in floodwater management. In terms of preparedness, the DDPM has coordinated with multiple provinces and regional centers to maintain readiness. Relief machinery has been dispatched to Kanchanaburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, and Ang Thong to provide rapid assistance if required. Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province has taken preventive actions, reinforcing flood defenses and preparing shelters and medical units. Local agencies are also surveying water levels and ensuring protective measures are in place. Residents are advised to follow instructions from officials and prioritize safety by staying updated with official announcements.
