New York:Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul witnessed a significant cooperation agreement signing between the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Thursday. This agreement aims to improve cross-border capital access and bolster economic relations between Thailand and the United States.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin participated in the traditional ceremony of ringing the Opening Bell at the NYSE, marking him as the third Thai prime minister to do so, after Abhisit Vejjajiva in 2009 and Srettha Thavisin in 2023.
Government Spokesperson Ekkapob Peanprasert stated that the new partnership between the SET and the NYSE is intended to aid in global fundraising, market expansion, and cross-border investment opportunities for Thai businesses. It is also expected to attract foreign capital and technology investments into Thailand.
Anutin emphasized that the signed Memorandum of Understanding is a testament to the strengthening economic relationship between Thailand and the United States. He described this collaboration as a pivotal step toward integrating the capital markets of both countries more closely.
