Thai Para-Athletes Set Sights on Gold at 2026 Asian Para Games

Nagoya:The Thai national para-athlete team is gearing up for the 5th Asian Para Games, scheduled to take place in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan from October 18-24, 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Maitri Kongruang, President of the Thailand Paralympic Committee, announced that the team is receiving robust support from the Sports Authority of Thailand, the Paralympic Committee of Thailand, and four other sports associations. The delegation will travel on two special chartered Thai Airways flights, departing on October 11, 2026.

The Thai team aims to secure a significant number of gold medals, particularly in wheelchair racing, where they anticipate winning six. Notable athletes Pongsakorn Paeyo and Athiwat Paengnuea are poised to potentially set new world records. The team is also hopeful for gold in table tennis and fencing, targeting four gold medals in each, with additional strong prospects in shooting and weightlifting.

This year’s Asian Para Games, hosted by Japan, will feature competitions across 18 sports, including athletics, swimming, and wheelchair basketball, offering a total of 492 gold medals. Thailand will participate in all 18 sports, with a contingent comprising 265 athletes and 147 officials.
