Civil Servant Early Retirement Program Nears Completion

Accra:According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilapraphan has announced that the early retirement program for civil servants is nearly finalized. The remaining issue involves setting the compensation amount, which is expected to exceed twelve times the original retirement benefits. Discussions with the Ministry of Finance will determine the exact figures before presenting the proposal to the Cabinet.

The program initially targets civil servants aged 50 and above, with provisions for those aged 40 and above under specific conditions, such as caregiving responsibilities or health issues. The initiative aims to decrease the civil servant workforce by 5% annually, starting in the 2027 fiscal year. A budget of 7 billion baht from the central government is projected for the initial phase, with a gradual reduction in funding in the following years.

In related human resource management efforts, the dissolution of the Land Bank Management Institute has led to the reassignment of 48 employees to the National Land Policy Committee. This transfer aligns with their mission to develop integrated land boundary maps. The Cabinet will approve the project and instruct necessary legal amendments within 90 days once the maps are completed.

The Office of the Public Sector Development Commission is also evaluating the reduction of redundant government agencies regionally. This process will be gradual to manage its impact on employee roles and responsibilities, forming part of a long-term strategy.

Further progress in public administration includes the Multilateral Joint Committee for Open Public Administration's call for enhanced data integration. This aims to improve information sharing across agencies, addressing issues such as environmental concerns and corruption more effectively. The unified database will enable better service delivery to citizens, ensuring seamless access to government services.
