Udon Thani Gears Up for 2026 International Horticultural Expo

Udon Thani:The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Wacharapol, has conducted a final inspection of the Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo, affirming that the gardens and plant varieties are fully prepared, with only minor tasks left before the event's opening on November 1st. The expo aims to highlight the beauty of its flora, agricultural innovations, and the charm of Isaan culture through a variety of activities, with expectations that tourists will require a full day to explore the entire event.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Watcharaphol Khaokham, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, stated after his inspection that overall preparations for the 2026 Udon Thani International Horticultural Exposition are nearly complete. While the gardens and plant varieties are finished and structural buildings are ready, minor details like sign and flag installations and area decorations by participating agencies are pending, with completion expected today.

Mr. Watcharaphol, originally from Udon Thani, expressed his desire to ensure his hometown is fully prepared to host visitors. He personally inspected the area on foot rather than using the provided golf carts to observe every detail and urged organizers to expedite the remaining preparations. After a morning to noon survey, he noted that only 30-40% of the total area had been reviewed, anticipating that tourists will need an entire day to appreciate the event's offerings, which include not only floral beauty but also knowledge, agricultural technology, and local arts and culture.

The expo will feature four wooden greenhouses with diverse plant species, including orchids, bromeliads, cacti, and various indoor plants. The outdoor area will offer lotus and wetland gardens, ornamental plant gardens, and a Thai fruit pathway, alongside a loop bridge for viewing the Nong Dae wetland area.

Visitors will also explore 16 organizational gardens showcasing agricultural research and technology, highlighting advancements like modern machinery, cultivation innovations, and environmentally friendly production concepts. This demonstrates the integration of science and technology with traditional farming knowledge to enhance productivity and opportunities for Thai farmers.

Additionally, the Isan Village will exhibit the region's charm through traditional houses and the lifestyle of its people. Visitors can learn about traditional rice cultivation, silk and local fabric weaving, and the use of herbs and traditional medicine, which connect traditional knowledge with modern science and healthcare.

The Royal Commemoration Building will host exhibitions on His Majesty's contributions to agriculture, water management, and natural resource conservation, including "134 Years of Story Towards Udon Thani Today," which narrates the province's history and development. The international exhibition area will provide insights into diverse horticulture and cultures worldwide.

Mr. Watcharaphol confirmed that facilities are ready to accommodate tourists, including a community market featuring local goods and products. He believes the event will leave a lasting impression through its gardens' beauty and educational experiences, offering a unique glimpse into the Northeast region's identity.

The Udon Thani International Horticultural Exposition 2026 will run from November 1, 2026, to March 14, 2027, spanning 134 days at Nong Dae Wetland, Udon Thani Province, and welcomes both Thai and international visitors.
