Samut Sakhon: The Samut Sakhon Provincial Public Health Office is set to extend its investigation into a critical incident involving an erroneous blood transfusion following a tragic accident on Phra Ram 2 Road. A victim lost their life when a concrete slab fell onto the windshield of a car. Authorities have since addressed the scene of the accident.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Prakit Sarathep, the Public Health Doctor of Samut Sakhon Province, has conducted an initial fact-finding mission at the hospital responsible for the mishap. He has requested additional time to gather comprehensive information and verify the details. Dr. Sarathep has committed to providing a definitive conclusion following the investigation.
In a related development concerning bridge safety, Mr. Naris Niramaiwong, Governor of Samut Sakhon Province, and Mr. Montree Wongwiwat, Deputy Director of the Samut Sakhon Highways Department, inspected the site of the Krathum Baen-Mahachai overpass. The overpass, which crosses Rama II Road, experienced chipping of its concrete floor. The engineering team involved in the assessment suggested that various factors, including the bridge’s age-nearly 40 years-and the heavy traffic it bears, may have contributed to the deterioration. The bridge repair department has conducted repairs to ensure safety. Furthermore, there is an ongoing directive to inspect all 209 bridges on Rama II Road to facilitate lasting repairs.
On the evening of April 30, engineers and staff from the 3rd Pathum Thani Bridge Construction and Restoration Center commenced repair work on the Mahachai elevated bridge in Samut Sakhon Province. Their efforts included chipping away degraded concrete to reveal stable sections, removing rust from steel components, applying anti-rust agents, and reinforcing the structure with new steel bars. Non-shrink concrete was poured to restore the bridge to its original state and functionality.
