Prachin Buri: A devastating tornado struck Wat Nong Khum in Prachin Buri Province, resulting in the collapse of the temple’s roof on the revered Buddha statue, Luang Pho Sothon. The impact caused the statue’s head to break and fall to the ground, creating a somber scene for the local community.
According to Thai News Agency, the statue, a large replica of Luang Por Sothon, was situated in the Sala Manakop, 19 meters above ground level. The tornado approached from the east, directly hitting the chapel where the statue was enshrined. This led to the collapse of several chapel pillars, which in turn caused the roof to fall on the statue, breaking the neck of the Buddha and resulting in the head’s descent to the ground.
The incident drew the attention of local leaders and Phra Khru Rattanasutthikun Phosriyanwiro, the District Chief of Kabin Buri, who visited the site to assess the damage. Discussions are underway with temple authorities to plan the renovation and repair of the damaged structure and statue.
