Wisut Urges Not to Link Thaksin’s Case with Government Stability

Bangkok: Wisut Chainarun, a Pheu Thai Party list MP and government whip, has addressed concerns regarding the Supreme Court's upcoming trial related to the 14th floor case involving Thaksin Shinawatra. He emphasized that this should not be interpreted as an indicator of potential chaos within the government. Wisut suggests that the Senate must distinctly separate the budget considerations from allegations of collusion in the selection of the Senate, cautioning against generalizations.

According to Thai News Agency, Wisut reaffirmed that Thaksin Shinawatra has not been involved in the internal affairs of the Pheu Thai Party. Instead, he highlighted Thaksin's achievements as a former prime minister and his role as an advisor to the ASEAN chairman. Wisut urged that Thaksin's legal case should not be seen as a destabilizing factor for the government.

When questioned about Thaksin's intentions amid the court proceedings and whether he plans to leave the country, Wisut assured that Thaksin remains unworried. He mentioned that some MPs who have interacted with Thaksin recently found him to be in good spirits. Wisut expressed confidence in Thaksin's legal team and his innocence, stating that the party members have not discussed or expressed concerns over the issue. He reiterated their trust in the judicial process.

In response to inquiries about ongoing political disputes between Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai, particularly regarding alleged collusion in the selection of senators, Wisut clarified that these are separate matters. He noted that the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Election Commission (EC) are merely fulfilling their duties, as some senator candidates have reported collusion. He warned that failing to act could result in charges of neglect of duty under Section 157. Wisut emphasized that these proceedings are not political maneuvers but rather part of the judicial process. He stressed the importance of maintaining a clear distinction between budget considerations and unrelated political issues, urging maturity and discernment in handling such matters.
