Bangkok: "Wisut Chainarun, a leading figure in the Pheu Thai Party, has expressed confidence that the 2026 budget will be smoothly approved without rejection. He emphasized the importance of coalition parties passing the budget to address public concerns, while clarifying that MP recruitment is unrelated to Pheu Thai, and cabinet reshuffles are solely under the Prime Minister's jurisdiction.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wisut, who serves as the Chief Whip of the Coordinating Committee of coalition parties, outlined the timeline for the draft consideration of the 2026 fiscal year budget bill. The target is set for a maximum of four days, from May 28 to 31, with priority given to the Royal Decree on the Suppression of Technology and Asset Management and other significant Royal Decrees.
Addressing concerns about potential conflicts and budget bill rejection, Mr. Wisut dismissed these as mere discussions, asserting that the government remains robust. He highlighted ongoing negotiations among party leaders, emphasizing the coalition parties' duty to pass the budget to prevent further economic decline. He stressed the necessity of accepting the budget principles in the first reading.
Mr. Wisut dismissed rumors of opposition MPs joining the Pheu Thai Party, maintaining that such actions are unlikely. He refrained from criticizing other parties, citing politeness. When questioned about political bargaining for ministerial positions, he attributed these claims to media speculation, clarifying that he has not engaged in related discussions.
Regarding the potential increase in ministerial seats with additional MPs, Mr. Wisut reiterated that cabinet adjustments are the Prime Minister's prerogative, not the legislative branch's. He also noted that debate time allocation may adhere to the original framework with equal hours for the opposition and government.
The Pheu Thai Party has instructed MPs to participate actively in the upcoming budget bill meeting at the end of the month."
