Samut Prakan: Rajvithi Bangkaew School in Samut Prakan Province has ordered online learning between May 26-28 after the COVID-19 outbreak was found to be severe again, especially among students, with the number of patients continuing to increase.
According to Thai News Agency, Rajvithi Bangkaew School, located in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province, has issued an announcement to inform parents and students to temporarily halt in-person classes. The decision to shift to online teaching from May 26 to May 28 is aimed at preventing the further spread of COVID-19, which has seen a resurgence in multiple areas. This resurgence is particularly concerning among students, where the number of cases has been steadily increasing. At this time, no other schools in the area have announced additional closures.
The Department of Disease Control reported the weekly COVID-19 statistics from May 18-24, revealing over 53,000 new infections. Approximately 2,800 individuals required hospital treatment, and there were 5 reported deaths. The cumulative number of patients this year has surpassed 187,000, with Bangkok recording the highest number of cases at 9,575, followed by Chonburi. The highest infection rates have been observed in the working-age population, the elderly, and young children.
