Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul has addressed speculation regarding the rejection of Suriya Jungrungruangkit and Somsak Thepsutin's nominations for ministerial positions, asserting that he has not yet engaged in discussions on the matter. He emphasized that the qualifications for potential ministers will align with standards set by the Constitutional Court, referencing its rulings in the cases involving Phumtham Wechayachai and Thawee Sodsong. Anutin declared that the criteria for ministerial qualifications will need to be significantly stricter.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin, who serves as both the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and as leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, refuted rumors suggesting that Suriya and Somsak were excluded from the ministerial quota in favor of younger candidates. He stated unequivocally, "There is absolutely no truth to that."
Anutin further clarified that no discussions have taken place concerning the potential issues that Suriya and Somsak might pose if they were to join the government. He reiterated that he has not engaged in any talks with parties about ministerial appointments or other matters.
Regarding the selection criteria for ministerial candidates, Anutin confirmed that qualifications must adhere to the principles established by the Constitutional Court. This follows the court's rulings in cases involving former Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and former Minister of Justice Thawee Sodsong, which addressed interference in the Senate election. Despite both individuals being found not guilty, Anutin stressed the importance of following the court's established principles.
When questioned about the need for stricter qualification checks post-ruling, Anutin affirmed, "Much stricter than before."
