Ao Keuak Ranks Among Top 10 Beaches Globally in 2026

Similan islands: Thailand's Ao Keuak, also known as Horseshoe Crab Bay, located within the Similan Islands National Park, has been ranked as the 10th best beach in the world in 2026. This accolade was part of "The World's 50 Best Beaches 2026," a compilation by over 1,000 tourism experts globally, highlighting the bay's natural beauty and unique features.

According to Thai News Agency, this recognition has been met with pride by Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment. He expressed gratitude towards the officials of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation for their efforts in preserving Thailand's natural resources. He emphasized the importance of maintaining management standards and using this achievement as a model for enhancing national parks across the country, promoting sustainable ecotourism, and gaining international recognition.

Mr. Atthapol Charoenchansa, Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, highlighted the proactive management strategies that contributed to this success. These include regulating tourist numbers, seasonal closures for restoration, and strict waste management practices, which have kept the marine and beach ecosystems intact.

Mr. Siriwat Suebsai, head of the Similan Islands National Park, noted that Horseshoe Crab Bay, situated on Island Eight (Similan Island), is renowned for its clear waters, fine white sand, and the iconic "Sail Rock" that draws tourists globally. The balance between tourism and conservation, along with cooperation from businesses and tourists, has been pivotal in achieving global recognition.

Horseshoe Crab Bay, or "Donald Duck Bay" to tourists, is recognized for its unique shape that resembles a shoe or boot when viewed from above. The bay's English name is derived from a rock formation on its northern side that resembles the head of the beloved cartoon character, Donald Duck, a feature that has made it famous worldwide.
