Sisaket: Artillery shells struck a temple on the border of Sisaket province, seriously injuring a village defense volunteer from shrapnel. The injured person is now conscious.
According to Thai News Agency, the District Chief of Kantharalak, Sisaket Province, visited Mr. Samai, a member of the Village Security Guard (VSG), who sustained serious head injuries from shrapnel from an artillery shell fired in a temple in the border area. Mr. Samai is conscious, able to speak, and was transferred from Kantharalak Hospital to Sappasit Prasong Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani Province for further treatment.
A monk at the temple where the incident occurred recounted that around 7 a.m., four monks were having breakfast when the first artillery shell flew over their heads, and a second landed near where he and Mr. Samai were. Shrapnel from the shell struck them, so they helped take Mr. Samai to the hospital. Currently, out of the seven monks at the temple, only four remain, as the unrest has forced some to evacuate.
