Bangkok: Bangkok residents are expressing a lack of enthusiasm for the upcoming Bangkok gubernatorial election, as the results seem predictable and voters feel indifferent about who gets elected.
According to Thai News Agency, a NIDA poll reveals that many Bangkok residents believe the election outcome is a foregone conclusion, leading to widespread apathy.
The NIDA Poll, conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), surveyed 1,310 eligible voters aged 18 and over across all 50 districts of Bangkok. The survey aimed to gauge voter sentiment and the factors influencing their decisions in the 2026 Bangkok gubernatorial election. Results indicated that 32.59% of respondents found the election unexciting due to its predictability, while 29.24% felt that the election's outcome was irrelevant.
The poll also explored how national politics might impact voter decisions. Among those surveyed, 33.97% believed national politics had no effect on their voting decisions, while 22.98% felt it had a moderate effect. Furthermore, the list and backgrounds of candidates for deputy governor were also considered influential in shaping voter decisions.
The survey also analyzed demographic characteristics such as age, gender, marital status, education, occupation, and income. The sample consisted of 45.50% males and 54.50% females, with a diverse age distribution. Education levels varied, with 47.56% holding a bachelor's degree and 11.37% having completed postgraduate studies. Occupations ranged from private sector employees to business owners and retirees, while income levels showed a wide range, with 21.98% reporting no income.
Overall, the NIDA poll highlighted the prevailing sentiment among Bangkok residents regarding the gubernatorial election, emphasizing the perceived predictability of the outcome and the influence of various demographic factors on voter attitudes.
