Bangkok: Bhumjaithai Party has announced the completion of a draft law proposing amendments to the existing Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks, and Imitation Firearms Act. Mr. Supachai Jaisamut, an MP and chairman of the party's legal working group, shared on Facebook that the draft is ready for submission to parliament, aiming to update regulations in line with current social and technological developments.
According to Thai News Agency, the proposed draft comprises more than 100 articles and sets forth 24 principles intended to revise the long-standing Firearms Act of 1947. The existing legislation has seen minimal amendments over the years, falling out of sync with modern technological advancements and societal changes. This discrepancy has led to challenges in law enforcement and has adversely affected public order. The Bhumjaithai Party emphasizes the necessity of these amendments to ensure the Act aligns with contemporary conditions, thereby enhancing public safety.
The focus of the proposed amendments is to address the outdated provisions that no longer meet the needs of today's society. By doing so, the Bhumjaithai Party aims to create a legal framework that supports both the enforcement of laws and the protection of public morality.
